London Apprentice to Mevagissey.
One of our favourite rambles this one.
From St Austell, head south on the B3273 to London Apprentice. Take the turning to the left turn just south of the Kingswood bar and Grill.
Head south along the Pentewan trail down a quietly wooded lane (some vehicle traffic at the start). after about 0.6 mile turn off the lane onto a path and then to the edge of the river. Follow the river bank until you come across a wooden bridge on the right, cross the bridge. When you meet to road keep on the left-
Continue south on the path that parallels the road.
The path then turns right and heads south west up the side of a valley (quite steep).after about 0.7 miles you pass under a road bridge. Just past this point the path branches uphill to the left to Mevagissey. Alternatively you may carry on a quarter of a mile or so, through a caravan site,to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, where you will find a cafe and toilets.
The path down to Mevagissey is twisty at the start with some very steep gradients (care! scooters easily run away at the bottom) At the time of writing the path had been recently resurfaced and was in very good condition. However, drainage channels may appear over time.
Mevagissey is self is a small fishing village, popular with tourists at high season. You will find pubs, restaurants, fish and chips, pasties, toilets etc.
